The energy sector covers a wide variety of applications: solar panels, heating, oil, gas, … We have the case, for example, in the oil and gas industry, when choosing the best carbon steel composition, chemical composition and mechanical properties must be taken into account to offer the best product.
During this process, information can be marked, such as lot number, part number, production date, etc. This information helps to facilitate the inspection process later on.
Aware that the energy sector is very broad, today’s article will be dedicated to discovering a couple of examples of laser marking applications in this sector.
The first case we want to present in this article is related to the oil industry. The objective of this work was to make deep marks on parts used in the sea to extract oil so that they would be legible after being used, soiled… In addition, these parts have different sizes and volumes, which added complexity to the case.
Even so, thanks to the deep marking system with SIC Marking’s i113d microdot marker, they were able to perform the marking.
The system consists of an i113d deep marking system. It must be placed on a balancer and fixed to a structure. A magnetic bar system ensures that the part is held in place. The selection of marking files is done by a barcode scanner.
Thanks to the quality and power of the i113d markers, the marking is perfectly legible even after shot blasting and after receiving several coats of paint without any alteration.
The following marking is related to the flanges necessary to fasten the different wiring used mainly for lighting.
The customer wanted to mark alphanumeric codes on cable ties of different colors. The qualification rate had to be relatively high. The quality of the marking, in particular the contrast, is a determining factor to enable a human review of the code.
The best solution was the i83 microneedle marking head and a carbon tape system. This produces a black embossed mark that the operator can easily read.
The machine cycle allows the operator to select the marking file and place 5 flanges on the table. It then launches the marking cycle, and the tape moves progressively while marking.
